Which program is for my child?

The day program—our most popular program, Spartan Soccer Academy—is for children entering second grade in the fall, up to kids entering ninth grade in the fall. The camp runs from 9 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday. With that large age and ability range, it would be natural for any parent to have questions about player safety, but rest assured, your soccer player will be separated by age and ability, so a safe, productive environment is assured for all.

Our goal is to provide the best learning environment to help your child improve as a soccer player and establish good training and performance habits. Our experienced coaching staff can help your young player attain individual goals by demonstrating both fundamental and advanced skills appropriate to age, ability, and experience as a player. Each day, campers are challenged by the coaches, the curriculum, other campers, and the game itself. Innovative training sessions and spirited games make the Spartan Soccer Academy a one-of-a-kind soccer environment.

All of our sessions will be delivered by highly qualified, coaches with up to date background checks, emergency aid and safeguarding certificates. Our directors and head coaches will have a minimum FA Level 2, CJSA Class E or CIAC qualifications.

Junior Spartans 1/2 Day Camp is for children entering kindergarten or first grade in the upcoming fall. Half-day camp runs 9 AM to 11:30 AM.

Spartan Development Academy is an evening program for the high-school-aged player, running one week, from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM.

I have more than one child to enroll. Are there discounts for families with more than one camper?

For Spartan Soccer Academy day camp, this will be handled by the Somers Recreation Department, where the fee is $540 for two child enrolled and $805 for three children enrolled.

For the 1/2 day camp and High School Academy, there are no multiple children offerings.

What does my child need to bring?

We advise all participants to bring plenty of water and/or non-sugary drinks with them to consume during the day, as well as a packed lunch and any snacks. Participants will also need to have the appropriate gear: soccer boots, shin guards, any medically required items/medicine to participate. As we are in the sun much of the day, we also recommend plenty of sunscreen and white or bright colored shirts/shorts.

Do parents need to stay?

Once a child is signed into the daily session, then they will be under our supervision and parents do not need to stay.

What if I am running late to pick up my child?

In the event that the parent/guardian is delayed, no child will be left unsupervised. Two members of staff will wait with the child at all times. All camper parents will have the director’s cell phone number to contact in case there is a family emergency. Excessive tardiness will result in additional charges.

What happens if it rains?

Providing the rain is not too heavy our sessions will continue as normal. If the weather becomes unsafe to play, then children will be taken indoors where they will then take part in an indoor games program. Only in very rare circumstances will a session be cancelled due to bad weather. If wet weather is anticipated, it is recommended you send your child with a change of clothes, as well as a plastic bag to cover the gear.

Do all coaches have necessary qualifications?

Every coach at Spartan Soccer Academy will have an up-to-date background check plus Emergency Aid and Safeguarding Children qualifications. All members of our coaching team will also have a minimum FA and/or CJSA/USYS and/or CIAC qualification level in coaching.
